Senegal Football Federation Addresses Arrival Procedures
The Senegal Football Federation has issued a statement to clarify circumstances surrounding their arrival in the United States for the World Cup. This comes after video footage circulated online, seemingly depicting players and staff undergoing security screenings on an airport tarmac. The images sparked considerable online debate and criticism.
Pre-Arranged Checks Explained
The federation has explained that the security checks in question did not occur upon their arrival in San Antonio. Instead, these procedures were pre-arranged and took place before the team’s departure from Raleigh.
A statement released by the federation read: “Following the circulation on social media of a video showing players and staff members of the Senegal national team undergoing a security check on an airport tarmac, we wish to provide the following clarifications in order to avoid any erroneous interpretation.”
“Contrary to certain reported information, this check did not take place upon the team’s arrival in San Antonio, but rather at the time of boarding at Raleigh airport on Sunday, June 7, 2026, before the flight’s departure.”
Optimizing Travel and Boarding
The federation detailed that the team bus transported the national squad directly to the tarmac from their hotel in Raleigh. This allowed for all security and police checks to be conducted directly at the aircraft.
“This procedure allowed the players and staff members to complete all security and police checks directly at the foot of the aircraft, without having to pass through the usual areas of the terminal and the boarding lounges,” the statement explained. The primary aim of this arrangement was to optimize travel time for the delegation and streamline boarding onto their private flight to San Antonio.
Compliance and Smooth Journey
The federation emphasized that the entire process adhered to prevailing airport security regulations, with no specific incidents reported. The subsequent private flight from Raleigh to San Antonio proceeded without issue, and the delegation successfully reached its destination.
Recent Match and Upcoming Fixtures
Senegal recently participated in a match that concluded in a 0-0 draw against Saudi Arabia. During this game, Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson received a red card. The team is scheduled to face France, Norway, and Iraq in their upcoming group stage matches.
