Paige Shiver, former executive assistant to ex-University of Michigan football coach Sherrone Moore, states he “had complete control over me.” She describes his influence over her emotions and career in an interview airing Friday, her first public comments since his December dismissal and recent sentencing.
Sentencing and Charges
Michigan fired Moore, then 39, over an inappropriate relationship with a staff member. He faced arrest soon after an incident at Shiver’s apartment. On April 14, a court sentenced him to 18 months’ probation after resolving a felony third-degree home invasion charge and misdemeanor counts of trespassing and malicious use of a telecommunications device.
Conditions include mental health treatment, alcohol abstinence, and no contact with Shiver. Prosecutors note Moore sent repeated unwanted messages after Shiver ended the relationship and reported it to the university. Police reports indicate he visited her apartment and threatened self-harm.
Shiver Details Attempts to End Relationship
Shiver recounts multiple efforts to break away. “Every time I tried to pull away, every time I tried to try and get out of even Michigan, he always had a story, always had a way to pull me in and making me feel that I couldn’t leave him because he was so miserable without me,” she says.
She adds that Moore controlled “my emotions, my career … and he knew that, and he used it against me.” Following the sentencing, Shiver issued a statement through her attorneys, asserting the punishment “does not reflect the harm done to me or the objective evidence in this case.”
The full interview airs Friday.
