Jannik Sinner describes his remarkable winning streak in Masters 1,000 events as “incredible” following his straight-sets victory over Alexander Zverev in the Miami Open semi-finals. The Italian triumphed 6-3, 7-6(4), extending his record of consecutive sets won to 32. He advances to Sunday’s final against Jiri Lehecka after securing his 16th straight win.

Sinner’s Post-Match Reflections

Sinner reflected on the achievement: “It has been an incredible swing. I’ve been trying to play as many matches as possible and I couldn’t do any better. Today was a very tough encounter. He played some incredible tennis, but I was serving very well, especially in the end and in the crucial moments. Standing here again, in the final, means very, very much to me.”

A Miami title would complete the Sunshine Double for Sinner, who captured Indian Wells earlier this month. Friday’s win boosts his live ATP ranking points to a career-high 12,050.

Ranking Battle Intensifies

Even with a potential Miami victory, Carlos Alcaraz holds the world No. 1 spot. However, Sinner narrows the gap. Ahead of next month’s Monte Carlo Masters—where he defends no points due to his 2025 suspension—Sinner trails by just 1,190 points.

Zverev rises to No. 3 in the ATP rankings despite the loss, aided by Novak Djokovic’s absence from Miami due to a lingering shoulder injury. Djokovic has also confirmed he will skip the Madrid Masters, where 1,000 points are up for grabs. Defending champion Alcaraz aims to solidify his lead there.

Alcaraz’s Mixed Form

Alcaraz capped the 2025 season as world No. 1 and kicked off 2026 strongly by winning the Australian Open, becoming the youngest man to claim all four majors and surpassing Rafael Nadal’s record. He followed with the Qatar Open title in February.

Recent results have been tougher: Alcaraz fell to Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells semi-finals, a tournament Sinner dominated. In Miami, he exited in the round of 32 against Sebastian Korda.
