This expansion of the cast follows the departures of several long-standing members, including Chloe Fineman and Bowen Yang, signaling a period of transition for the venerable sketch comedy institution.
New Talent Joins the Iconic Sketch Show
Saidah Belo-Osagie, a Brooklyn-based comedian, brings a diverse background in writing, directing, and performing. Her creative portfolio includes the short film Tinge, the event series Afrobeats Futura, and her solo show Saidah Gets Closure. Born in Queens, Belo-Osagie also gained recognition for her role in the web series Abigail’s Divine Comedy. She cultivated a significant online presence through comedy content on TikTok and Instagram, a path familiar to many recent generations of SNL stars who have leveraged social media to build their comedic voices.
Grace Reiter, hailing from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, is another notable addition. She boasts a substantial following of 3.9 million on TikTok, where she is particularly known for her popular parody trailer of The Hunger Games. Reiter’s performance experience includes appearances in The Chair Company, a project by SNL alumnus Tim Robinson. She has also contributed as a writer, director, and cast member to the forthcoming comedy series Minimum Wage.
Season 52 Premiere and Upcoming Hosts
The new cast members are set to make their debut in the season 52 premiere on September 26. The opening episode will be hosted by basketball star Jalen Brunson, with the musical group KATSEYE performing. Following this, actress Dakota Johnson is scheduled to host the October 3 episode. The lineup for subsequent shows includes hosts Shane Gillis and Inde Navarrette, alongside musical guests Rosalia and Gracie Abrams, promising a dynamic start to the new season.
Notable Cast Departures
The introduction of Belo-Osagie and Reiter comes after a series of departures from the SNL cast. Chloe Fineman, a fan favorite who joined the show in 2019 and was promoted to full-time cast member in 2021, announced her exit in July after seven seasons. In a statement, Fineman described her departure as difficult but timely, expressing gratitude for her time on the show and calling the cast and crew her “family.” She lauded the experience as “the greatest privilege of my life” and expressed her enduring connection to the program and its creator, Lorne Michaels.
Bowen Yang, another prominent cast member, reportedly left the sketch show in December. His departure was motivated by a desire to pursue a Broadway debut and to dedicate more time to his popular podcast, Las Culturistas. Yang had been a significant presence on SNL, contributing his unique comedic style to numerous sketches.
Earlier this month, reports also indicated the departure of Martin Herlihy after five seasons. While primarily a writer, Herlihy frequently appeared on camera, showcasing his performing talents. His father, Tim Herlihy, is a well-known figure in SNL history, having served as a head writer in the mid-1990s and being part of the comedy trio Please Don’t Destroy alongside Ben Marshall and John Higgins. Higgins departed the show last year, while Marshall was elevated to full-time cast member status.

These changes follow a significant cast shakeup after the show’s landmark 50th season, which saw other cast members like Heidi Gardner, Devon Walker, Emil Wakim, and Michael Longfellow leave the series.
