A 25-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of child neglect following the death of a baby girl who succumbed to injuries in hospital after an incident at a home in South Manchester.
Emergency Response
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, rushed to the property on Thursday morning after reports raised concerns for welfare. A neighbor witnessed a paramedic carrying the infant from the home and described the scene as “terrifying” and “very scary.”
The baby girl received immediate medical attention and was transported to a nearby hospital, where she tragically died despite intensive efforts by medical teams.
Police Investigation
The suspect remains in custody, according to Greater Manchester Police. Detective Chief Inspector Ian Wrench stated: “This is a devastating incident and news of a police investigation will cause shock in the local community.”
He added: “Please be assured that we are keeping an open mind as we pursue several lines of enquiry, working closely with our partners to understand the full circumstances surrounding how this death occurred. We are doing everything possible to provide answers for this baby and their family.”
Detectives and forensic teams examined the scene yesterday afternoon, with inquiries continuing today. Witnesses reported seeing numerous police vehicles and two ambulances at the address, with one overhearing a mention of a child.
Another resident recounted a visit from officers, including one in uniform and one in plain clothes, who inquired if anything unusual had been heard or seen, confirming an incident had occurred without further details.
