Heartbreaking Tribute to 17-Year-Old Found Deceased in Lake
The family of a 17-year-old boy, tragically found dead in a lake at a popular Cheshire beauty spot, has released a profound tribute describing him as ‘full of light.’ David Tita Jr. was last seen in Pickmere Lake, near Knutsford, on Tuesday, May 26. His disappearance prompted a significant search operation, involving underwater search teams and extensive emergency service resources.
His body was recovered from the lake later that same day. In a deeply moving statement, his grieving family expressed the enduring pain of their loss. They described David as a ‘compassionate,’ ‘sensitive,’ and ‘brave’ young man.
A Life Cut Short
The family’s statement poignantly articulated their immense sorrow: “No words will ever describe the loss of our son. He was not only a son, but a friend, a brother and a very supportive force to us, his family and the wider Crewe community.” They continued, “David was compassionate, sensitive, brave and full of light. When he smiled, it was as mountains smile to see the spring. His smile and touching empathy were infectious, as was his impactful capacity to reach out, build relationships, help and support those around him.”
The statement further conveyed the stolen future: “You were ripped away from having a full and rich life and we were stolen the chance of ever having to see you grow old and have your own children and family. This pain in our chests will never leave us and will forever be within our hearts because we love David and that’s something no one can take away from us.” They concluded with a promise to remember him: “Tonight, and tomorrow and for the rest of our lives, we will look for you in the stars, the heavens and through sunsets and remember who you were, until we meet again.”
Water Safety Warning Issued
Following the confirmed tragedy, Chief Inspector Jamie Lewis of Cheshire Police acknowledged the immense difficulty of the situation. He stated, “This was a young boy who had his entire life ahead of him. At what is an incredibly difficult time, our thoughts remain with the boy’s family, friends and everyone who knew him.”
Chief Inspector Lewis commended the efforts of all involved in the search, including colleagues from the Constabulary, Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the Underwater Search Team, for their professionalism and dedication. He also extended gratitude to the family, friends, and local community for their support during the challenging search period.
The incident has prompted a stark warning about the dangers of open water swimming, particularly as warmer weather approaches. “Over the Bank Holiday weekend, we have sadly seen the very real dangers of swimming in open water,” Chief Inspector Lewis noted. “We understand that with the warm weather many people could be tempted to take a dip in open water to cool off, but residents must be aware of the potential deadly consequences.”
The clear message to the public is to avoid unnecessary risks: “The message to our communities is a clear one, don’t be tempted to put your life at risk by cooling off in open water.”
