An actor who portrayed a giant in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed film The Odyssey experienced a unique form of premiere celebration when his fiancée organized a special screening after they were not invited to the official event. Lloyd Ejimbe, who stands at an impressive 6 feet 11 inches tall, was cast as one of the formidable giants who confront Matt Damon’s Odysseus in the epic three-hour production. Frustrated by the oversight, his fiancée, Nneka Muotto, took matters into her own hands to ensure Ejimbe’s contribution was recognized.

A Personal Premiere Celebration

Nneka Muotto shared the heartwarming moment on Instagram, capturing the surprise she orchestrated for Ejimbe. The video shows her presenting him with custom-made tickets for a screening of The Odyssey at London’s O2 Arena. This thoughtful gesture transformed a potential disappointment into a memorable occasion.

During the outing, Nneka explained her motivation to those around them: “So, guys, we’re at the O2, we’re gonna see The Odyssey, but not only are we going to see The Odyssey, I even have a surprise for you. So you know The Odyssey people, they didn’t invite us to the premiere, so we’re going to make our own premiere, so I’ve made us some special tickets.”

The custom tickets were laminated and featured a photograph of Ejimbe in his giant costume, alongside a behind-the-scenes snapshot with members of the cast. This personal touch underscored the significance of his role and the desire to celebrate his achievement.

An Unexpected Standing Ovation

As the film concluded, Nneka stood up to address the cinema audience, proudly announcing, “Excuse me everyone! He was one of the giants in the movie!” Her announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers and applause from the other moviegoers, who then turned their attention to Ejimbe. Overwhelmed by the warm reception, Ejimbe stood up to acknowledge the crowd’s support.

Ejimbe himself shared the video on Instagram, reflecting on the experience with a caption that read: “If Hollywood doesn’t send an invite… create your own premiere. Mission accomplished. Premiere passes? Printed. Popcorn? Purchased. Standing ovation? Secured. Random strangers asking for photos? Also secured.” He extended his gratitude, “Congratulations @lloyd.ejimbe on being part of The Odyssey. Every giant journey starts with one step… and apparently one determined fiancée who refuses to let any achievement go unnoticed.”

He also expressed his thanks to director Christopher Nolan and the production team for the opportunity to be part of the film. Ejimbe added, “Thank you, Christopher Nolan and everyone who gave Lloyd the opportunity to be part of such an incredible production. Watching it in 4DX took the film to another level! Here’s to many more films, many more premieres (official ones next time), and celebrating every single win along the way. God is just getting started.”

The Odyssey: A Box Office Success

Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has been a significant commercial success since its release. The film has garnered substantial box office returns, exceeding $667 million globally in just over a week. This impressive figure highlights the film’s broad appeal and the audience’s engagement with Nolan’s directorial vision.

The movie, based on the ancient Greek epic, boasts an all-star cast. Matt Damon takes on the titular role of Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway as his wife Penelope. Tom Holland portrays their son Telemachus, and Zendaya appears as the goddess Athena. Robert Pattinson plays the suitor Antinous, while Charlize Theron and Samantha Morton are cast as the goddesses Calypso and Circe, respectively. Jon Bernthal and Benny Safdie round out the cast as Spartan king Menelaus and his brother Agamemnon.

Despite critical discussions regarding some directorial choices, the film’s overall performance at the box office has been strong. The demand for tickets, particularly for premium formats like 70mm IMAX, remains high, with specific screenings selling out rapidly in the limited number of cinemas worldwide offering them.

The Significance of Representation

Ejimbe’s story brings attention to the experiences of actors, particularly those in supporting or ensemble roles, within the high-stakes world of major film productions. While the film achieved widespread recognition and commercial success, individual cast members may not always receive direct invitations to high-profile events like premieres.

Nneka Muotto’s proactive approach in creating a personal premiere underscores the importance of celebrating achievements, regardless of external validation. Her actions highlight the supportive role partners can play in an artist’s career, ensuring that contributions are acknowledged and appreciated. The positive reaction from the cinema audience further validates the sentiment that every role, no matter how seemingly small, contributes to the overall success of a film.

The narrative of Ejimbe and Muotto’s “own premiere” serves as a touching reminder of personal triumphs and the power of love and support in navigating the complexities of the entertainment industry. It emphasizes that recognition can come in many forms, and sometimes, the most meaningful celebrations are those created from the heart.
