Bristol Rovers staged a thrilling comeback to defeat Crewe 2-1 in League Two, with Tommy Leigh scoring twice in the closing minutes.
Crewe’s Early Lead
Crewe struck first in the 18th minute through Alfie Pond. Influential on-loan winger Tommi O’Reilly delivered a low cross from the byline, setting up Pond’s shot. Rovers goalkeeper Brad Young parried the effort, but the ball ricocheted off a Crewe defender and into the net during a match short on clear chances.
Rovers’ Second-Half Surge
After Crewe controlled the first half, Bristol Rovers transformed their performance post-interval. Leigh opened his account for the club—his debut goal since arriving on transfer deadline day—with a powerful header at the back post in the 87th minute, leveling the score.
Just five minutes later, Leigh sealed victory by smashing a shot past Crewe goalkeeper Ian Lawlor at the near post. The late brace rewarded Rovers’ dominant second-half display.
