President Slams Tehran for ‘Foolish’ Breach of Truce

Former President Donald Trump has strongly criticized Iran, accusing the nation of “foolishly” violating a fragile ceasefire agreement following a recent drone attack on cargo vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement released Friday afternoon, Trump detailed the incident, stating, “The Islamic Republic of Iran shot at least four One Way Attack Drones at Ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz.” He elaborated that one drone successfully struck the upper deck of a “large and very expensive cargo carrying ship,” causing damage but allowing the vessel to continue its journey.

Trump further reported that U.S. forces successfully intercepted and neutralized three other drones during the engagement. “This is a foolish violation of our Ceasefire Agreement,” the former President declared.

Background to the Ceasefire

The reported drone strikes come after Vice President J.D. Vance’s diplomatic mission to Switzerland the previous weekend. During this trip, Vance engaged in negotiations with Iranian representatives, alongside mediators from Pakistan and Qatar. A memorandum of understanding was subsequently signed by the U.S. and Iran, which explicitly guarantees the unimpeded transit of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz.

The recent actions by Iran are seen as a direct contravention of the terms established in this recently inked ceasefire agreement.

Strait of Hormuz: A Critical Waterway

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital chokepoint for global oil shipments. Iran’s targeting of ships, including oil tankers, in this critical waterway has raised significant concerns regarding regional stability and international maritime security.

While the former President did not specify the identities of the targeted vessels, the British military had previously announced on Thursday that a vessel off the coast of Oman had been struck.

This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
