Twitch Introduces Innovative Dual Format Streaming
Twitch is set to launch a significant new feature next month called Dual Format streaming. This groundbreaking system allows content creators to broadcast simultaneously in both horizontal and vertical orientations, aiming to optimize the viewing experience for users across both desktop and mobile devices.
Optimizing for All Viewers
The platform has reported highly positive feedback during its beta testing phase, alongside notable improvements in performance. Dual Format utilizes Enhanced Broadcasting technology, which encodes multiple versions of a stream for viewers. Upon its full rollout, server-side transcoding support will be extended to Twitch Partners and a substantial number of Affiliates. This measure is designed to mitigate potential system strain for creators.
Expanded Features and Monetization Tools
In addition to Dual Format, Twitch is expanding its offerings with several other enhancements. High-definition 2K (1440p) streaming will become available to all partners and affiliates next month. This is coupled with increased bitrate support, improved notification systems, and the introduction of Stream Summaries. This new feature will provide viewers with a concise overview of key moments that have occurred during a broadcast.
The platform is also doubling down on its investment in Clips. Auto Clips will automatically generate captioned clips from significant stream moments. Furthermore, automatic clip captions are being introduced, and Stories are receiving updates, including stream recap functionalities and enhanced clip discovery across Twitch.
For subscribers, tier 2 and tier 3 members will soon be able to use GIFs in chat. Creators can also anticipate several new tools designed to boost earnings. These include Creator Badge Drops, Mythic Trains, Creator Sponsorships, and the expansion of Bounty Board campaigns to Affiliates via Open Invite campaigns. Viewers will find it easier to discover, earn, and track Drops.
Financial Updates for Creators
A significant development for creators operating within the Eurozone is the confirmation that SEPA payments will now eliminate currency exchange fees, resulting in lower transfer costs. While a specific rollout date has not yet been announced, Twitch has pledged to notify users once this update goes live.
TwitchCon Europe is scheduled to take place in Berlin on May 22-23, 2027.
