Carlos Vinicius, ex-Tottenham and Fulham striker, endured a stunning blunder by missing three straight penalties in six minutes during Gremio’s Copa Sudamericana Group F clash against Chilean side Palestino on Wednesday.

Player’s Background and Form

The 31-year-old Brazilian forward netted eight goals in 52 outings for Fulham before securing a permanent transfer to Gremio in summer 2025. Earlier, he enjoyed a loan at Tottenham from Benfica, scoring 10 goals across competitions, with his lone Premier League strike coming against Aston Villa. Vinicius boasts 13 goals in all competitions for Gremio this season.

Penalty Sequence Unfolds

On the 11th minute, goalkeeper Sebastian Perez deflected Vinicius’s first spot-kick around the post. Officials ordered a retake after Perez moved off his line prematurely.

Vinicius tried again in the 14th minute, but Perez parried the effort onto the left post. Another infringement by the keeper prompted a third attempt.

Slipping on the pitch during his final shot down the middle, Vinicius watched Perez make a legal foot save while diving left. Teammates mobbed the hero keeper in jubilation.

Match Impact and Final Twists

Gremio settled for a 0-0 draw, hampered by the misses. Vinicius found the net in the 78th minute, only for VAR to disallow it. He received a late booking to compound the frustration.

Gremio hold second place in the group midway through, securing a playoff spot.
