Manchester United Fan’s Long-Haired Stunt Nears End
A dedicated Manchester United supporter, known online as The United Strand, has gained massive attention for vowing not to cut his hair until the team secures five consecutive victories. Frank Ilett began growing out his mop-top locks in October 2024, during a tough stretch where United struggled to achieve such a streak.
The fan came tantalizingly close last month, as United notched four straight wins under interim manager Michael Carrick. Ilett prepared for a trim, only for the team to draw against West Ham in the fifth match. With just nine games left in the season, Ilett remains optimistic that Carrick will deliver the wins needed to end his challenge.
Satirical Video Outlines Post-Challenge Strategy
In a humorous video produced with bookmaker Paddy Power, Ilett attends a mock seminar called ‘How to Diversify Your Viral Momentum.’ Joined by fellow internet sensations like the Wealdstone Raider (Gordon Hill), he enters the room and declares: ‘When Man United get those five wins in a row, that’s curtains for me. I need to stay relevant and diversify my brand, and to do that, I’m going to need help.’
The skit features other viral figures, including Jamie Philips, Connor Humpage, Kevin Rooney, and Alex Lacey—famous for a photo in tight jeans—as well as Danny Andrews, known for his fish-and-rice-cake diet from a 2007 documentary, and Guy Goma, who was accidentally interviewed on live TV in 2006 during a job interview mix-up.
The instructor mocks Ilett’s ‘big stupid clown hair’ before urging him to reveal his true self. Ilett stands and says: ‘Yeah, I’m the guy with the big head of hair. But there’s so much more to me than that, and I’m ready to show the world.’ He unzips his jacket to expose a bushy chest, prompting Goma to exclaim: ‘What is that? Right, I’m off,’ as he exits. One of the tight-jeans group adds: ‘I’m going to be sick on my chinos.’
The Wealdstone Raider now claims to write erotic novels, highlighting how viral stars evolve their personas.
Paddy Power Comments on the Stunt
A Paddy Power spokesperson noted: ‘Frank’s become a household name thanks to his non-haircut pledge and Manchester United’s past struggles, but with the team improving under Michael Carrick, we’re helping him future-proof his career in the meme world. His fellow viral stars prove the need to refresh acts, though his body hair reveal isn’t for everyone. Let’s hope it doesn’t take five straight wins to shave that off.’
Carrick Acknowledges the Viral Phenomenon
Even Carrick addressed the fan’s pledge in a pre-match press conference before the West Ham game. ‘I can say I’m aware of it, yeah,’ the interim boss stated. ‘My kids have made me aware of it, if anything, but it certainly won’t go into the team talk from a professional level. I can understand what’s going on with it and it does make me smile but it won’t have an impact ultimately in the end.’
