West Ham United Places High Value on Midfielder Amidst Intense Transfer Speculation

Clubs pursuing the highly-rated Mateus Fernandes have received a clear message: West Ham United is not under financial pressure to sell the 21-year-old midfielder. Standard Sport understands the club has set an ambitious asking price of £80 million, reflecting a strong internal belief in Fernandes’ potential to develop into a world-class talent within the next two years.

Manchester United is reportedly among the clubs with a serious interest in the Portuguese international. However, they are not alone, as Arsenal, Liverpool, Paris Saint-Germain, and Real Madrid have also been mentioned as potential suitors for the former Southampton player. This follows speculation that West Ham might need to generate over £100 million in player sales this summer to address financial matters after their relegation from the Premier League.

Investor Reaffirms Club’s Strategic Vision on Player Sales

Fernandes, widely considered West Ham’s most valuable asset, was anticipated to depart the London Stadium once the transfer window officially opens. However, Daniel Kretinsky, who is poised to become the largest shareholder at the club, has articulated the club’s firm stance on player disposals.

In an interview with The Times, Kretinsky stated, “We have a very credible strategy. We don’t need to sell the players for financial reasons. We are doing this to make sure we are promoted back to the Premier League immediately. That is our only goal. Key players are waiting for us. They want to see there is a real chance of keeping the squad together. What matters is funding, strategy and consistency. We have spoken to all of them. They need to see that our project is real and serious. Promotion is our only goal.”

Transfer Race Heats Up as Opening Bids Are Prepared

Manchester United, reportedly leading the chase for Fernandes, is said to be preparing an initial bid but is hesitant to meet the substantial asking price. Kretinsky’s comments suggest that attempts to negotiate the fee downwards may prove futile.

Meanwhile, Arsenal appears to be shifting its focus, reportedly showing interest in signing Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille. The young player’s impressive World Cup debut for Morocco against Brazil has reportedly led to contact between both clubs and the player’s agent. Bouaddi is also a transfer target for Liverpool and PSG.
