An adult woman has died following a shooting in Etobicoke, with police characterizing the incident as a targeted attack. The fatal shooting occurred early Friday morning, prompting a significant police response and an ongoing search for a suspect.
Early Morning Shooting in Etobicoke
Toronto police were dispatched to a residential street near the intersection of Humberwood and Rexdale boulevards shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday. Responding officers discovered an adult woman at the scene who had sustained a gunshot wound. Paramedics were present, but the woman was pronounced dead at the location.
During an early briefing, Duty Insp. Scott Bradbury stated that the victim’s identity is being withheld pending notification of her next of kin. “The victim in this case is an adult female, and because we’re in the early stages of the investigation, and next of kin has not been notified, we’re not releasing further information on her identity,” Bradbury explained to reporters.
Investigation Focuses on Targeted Attack
Investigators have indicated that they believe the woman was specifically targeted. “We feel that this is a localized issue, meaning that this woman was targeted, and that there’s no extra risk to the neighbors,” Bradbury emphasized. Police reported that an adult man was observed fleeing the area immediately after the shooting. Witness Account of the Incident
A witness, who was in the vicinity at the time of the shooting, provided an account of the events. The individual, who was reportedly having coffee nearby, told reporters that he saw a man approach the woman. According to the witness, the man spoke with the woman for approximately 30 seconds before firing his weapon. “I saw a guy talking to her a little bit like for 30 seconds… then he shot the girl, and he walked away to the southbound of (Hwy.) 427, that’s what I saw,” the witness recounted.
The witness expressed a profound sense of unease following the incident, stating that it had shaken his perception of safety in the neighborhood. “I’ve lived here for about six, seven years… I think it was really safe here, but I don’t think it’s safe now,” he said, reflecting a sentiment of disrupted security among local residents.
