Dawson City Yukon River Flood Watch

Flood watch advisories are in effect for the Yukon River near Dawson City due to rising water levels that approach the 1998 peak, the second-highest since 1979. A large ice jam, now stretching eight kilometers downstream from the town, drives the increase as more ice flows into it.

Officials report flooding at the Moosehide site and elevated water levels throughout Dawson. The jam grew overnight, heightening concerns during river breakup.

This advisory coincides with an ongoing flood warning for the Klondike River at Henderson’s Corner, where some residents face evacuation alerts.

Water levels remain unpredictable as ice continues to move. A sudden jam release could cause a brief surge, but any assets on the river side of the dike face immediate risk.

Carmacks Nordenskiold River Advisory

In Carmacks, a flood watch covers the Nordenskiold River after levels rose rapidly over 48 hours from melting snow and warm weather. River flow peaked overnight but has since dropped slightly.

Cooler conditions, including sub-zero overnight temperatures, should moderate the rise in the coming days.

Other Territory Updates

Ice jams on the Pelly River below Ross River and at Pelly Crossing released overnight. Flooding affected the Ross River ferry landing and waterfront but receded by Thursday.

A flood watch signals rising river levels that could overflow banks, potentially leading to a flood warning if conditions worsen.
