A 44-year-old Slovak man wanted for a series of thefts since 2010 faces justice after authorities arrested him at a campsite near Milan during the Winter Olympics.
Swift Capture at Campsite
Italian carabinieri apprehended the fugitive on Wednesday shortly after he checked into a campsite on the outskirts of Milan. An automatic alert from the reception desk notified police of his presence, enabling a rapid response.
The man had traveled to support Slovakia’s national ice hockey team but missed their opening game victory, a decisive 4-1 win over Finland at Milan’s Santagiulia Arena.
Sentence and Imprisonment
Authorities transported the unnamed individual to Milan’s San Vittore prison, where he will serve a pending sentence of 11 months and 7 days for the 2010 thefts.
