A new tenant has taken over the former Yorks location at Birmingham’s Ikon Gallery, bringing fresh excitement to the Brindleyplace hotspot. The popular Medicine Bakery will fill the space left vacant after Yorks shuttered its kitchen in the free contemporary art venue last autumn.

Medicine Bakery’s Regional Presence

Medicine Bakery operates several spots across the region, including a bustling outlet on New Street inside Selfridges and another at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Renowned for its artisan bakes and quality coffee, the bakery plans to launch at Ikon from mid-March, though an exact opening date remains unconfirmed.

Yorks ended operations at Ikon soon after closing its Paradise development corner site and a Stephenson Street branch.

Spring Highlights at Ikon Gallery

Spring transforms Oozells Square, home to Ikon Gallery, with its stunning annual cherry blossom display. The gallery offers free access to contemporary art exhibitions.

Upcoming shows include the major ‘UPRIGHT’ exhibition featuring acclaimed artist Angela de la Cruz’s rarely seen works alongside a new commission with Birmingham Royal Ballet, running from March 25 to September 6.

On the same date, the final installment of the Break The Mould trilogy showcases ceramics by artists such as resident creators Jack Ky Tan, Halima Cassell, and Roo Dhissou. Visitors can also join ceramics workshops from Balsall Heath’s Sundragon Community Pottery and Digbeth’s Modern Clay cooperative studio.

Ikon Gallery is located at Brindleyplace, Oozells Square, Birmingham, B1 2HS.
