Husband Challenges Conviction After Wife’s Fatal Bridge Jump
Lee Milne, 40, launches an appeal against his culpable homicide conviction following the death of his wife, Kimberly Milne, 28. She jumped from a bridge on the A90 in Dundee on July 27, 2023, and was struck by multiple vehicles.
During a trial at Glasgow High Court, Milne denied all charges. Jurors convicted him of culpable homicide—a legal first in Scotland—and domestic abuse. The court sentenced him to an 11-year extended term, including eight years in prison and three years of supervision.
Details of Abuse and Final Moments
The couple married in September 2022 after meeting in late 2021. Prosecutors detailed 18 months of violence, including choking, hair-pulling, striking, shouting, and swearing.
Harrowing CCTV footage from Kimberly’s final hours shows Milne berating her aggressively. She cowers, clutches her head in pain, and hides behind a wall to escape. Footage captures him driving his vehicle toward her, skidding inches away. They later walk onto a flyover bridge, where she climbs the barrier and jumps.
Judge’s Remarks and Legal Precedent
The judge, Lady Drummond, stated: “You had split from Kimberly Milne and knew she was in distress that day. Your response included driving erratically at speed, shouting at her, and throwing an item—further abuse when she was fragile. Following your actions, she reached despair and fell to her death. You bear responsibility for both the abuse and her death.”
The Appeal Court in Edinburgh confirms Milne’s intention to appeal the conviction.
This case marks Scotland’s first culpable homicide conviction linked to domestic abuse leading to suicide. A similar case occurred in England in 2017.
Post-trial, authorities revealed Milne’s separate 2024 conviction for groping two young boys in Angus.
