Pennsylvania Man Allegedly Tears Down House with Excavator After Argument
A domestic dispute escalated dramatically in Sarver, Pennsylvania, Tuesday, when a man, identified as Eric Pierwsza, 48, is accused of using an excavator to demolish the rear of his home while his wife and two daughters were still inside. The incident reportedly followed an intense, alcohol-fueled argument with his wife.
Marital Dispute Leads to Destructive Act
According to initial reports, Mr. Pierwsza arrived home after a night of drinking, leading to a heated exchange with his wife. The confrontation reportedly culminated when his wife declared their marriage was “done.” In response, Mr. Pierwsza allegedly stated, “If it’s over, I’ll tear the house down.” Moments later, he is said to have commandeered a Kubota excavator and began dismantling the back section of the property.
Family Escapes Unharmed Amidst Destruction
Dramatic images from the scene depict the house significantly damaged, with sections of the rear structure appearing to have collapsed. During what is described as a frantic phone call to emergency services, dispatchers reportedly heard yelling and the distinct sound of heavy machinery. Fortunately, both Mr. Pierwsza’s wife and their two daughters managed to exit the residence without injury before the structural damage became catastrophic.
Suspect Flees, Then Surrenders
Following the alleged destruction, investigators indicate that Mr. Pierwsza re-entered the damaged home, retrieved a gym bag, and fled the scene in a vehicle, heading towards Fawn Township. Before responding officers could apprehend him, he was reportedly reached by phone and subsequently turned himself in to authorities later the same day.
Community Reaction and Legal Proceedings
Neighbors expressed shock at the events. One individual, who has known Mr. Pierwsza for years and described him as an outdoorsman, conveyed his astonishment. “Forty-two years I’ve been married, but I’ve never threatened to tear the house down,” the neighbor commented, underscoring the unusual nature of the alleged incident.
Buffalo Township Police Chief Timothy Derringer acknowledged the severity of the situation, stating, “You never know what people are thinking today. It is an unfortunate incident, I will say for all involved and hopefully it is an isolated incident and there are no other incidents in the future.” He also emphasized that domestic violence remains a significant issue within communities.
Mr. Pierwsza is now facing multiple charges, including causing a catastrophe, reckless endangerment, and disorderly conduct. He has since been released on bail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 9.
Reports indicate that Mr. Pierwsza’s wife intends to file a protection-from-abuse order.
