Iconic Circuit Set for Electrifying New Chapter
A legendary British motorsport venue is poised to welcome single-seater racing back to its hallowed grounds for the first time in over four decades. Brands Hatch, a circuit with a rich history including multiple Formula One British Grand Prix events between 1964 and 1986, has been confirmed as the new home for the all-electric racing series, Formula E, starting in 2027.
Formula E Shifts to Historic Venue
This significant move sees Formula E departing from its current London E-Prix location at ExCel London, where it has competed annually since 2021. Prior to its stint at ExCel, the E-Prix was held at Battersea Park. The relocation to Brands Hatch is driven by the series’ need for a wider circuit, offering more dynamic racing possibilities than the temporary London track.
Gen4 Racing Era Begins at Brands Hatch
The upcoming Gen4 car, recently unveiled and noted for its increased weight, size, and power, represents a substantial evolution for the series. reports the car’s reveal suggest that drivers and officials alike have expressed enthusiasm for Brands Hatch as the ideal venue for this new generation of electric racing.
A Long-Term Partnership for a Historic Track
Formula E has secured a multi-year agreement that will establish the series as a premier event at the historic Kent circuit. Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds expressed his excitement about the new home:
“Entering the Gen4 era, Brands Hatch sits as a natural home for this new era of electric racing. It’s a venue that holds a special place for me personally, having grown up nearby I used to ride my motorcycle here to watch racing, and I have always viewed it as an incredible, under-utilised circuit that I am sure will provide a thrilling setting for the British debut of Gen4 racing.”
He added, “Working closely with Jonathan Palmer and the MSV team, we’ve secured a long-term partnership that will see Formula E become a marquee event on such an iconic race track. We are incredibly excited to bring the future of electric racing to Brands Hatch, offering fans a unique opportunity to witness the full power of the next generation of electric racing in a truly historic setting.”
Expansive Global Calendar for 2027
The transition to Brands Hatch and the introduction of the Gen4 cars are key highlights of Formula E’s most comprehensive calendar to date. The 2027 season is set to feature a record-breaking 21 races across 13 cities globally. The calendar includes new additions such as a stop at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin and the return of the Madrid E-Prix at Jarama. Fan favorites in Saudi Arabia, Mexico, Miami, Sao Paolo, Sanya, Berlin, Monaco, Shanghai, and Tokyo are also slated to return.
