A spokesperson for the Greenville County Coroner’s Office stated that an autopsy revealed no signs of trauma that could have contributed to Panettiere’s passing. The official ruling cites the cause of death as “toxic effects of fentanyl, 4-ANPP, Alprazolam, Methocarbamol, and Quetiapine.” The manner of death was determined to be accidental. The case has been administratively closed by the coroner’s office.
Fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid up to 50 times stronger than heroin, can lead to fatal overdoses even in very small quantities. Reports had previously suggested that authorities suspected a drug overdose, with some sources indicating that Panettiere may have consumed a single oxycodone pill that was laced with fentanyl.
