A disturbing incident unfolded at London Stadium when an Arsenal supporter allegedly faced violence from West Ham fans for sitting in the home section during Sunday’s Premier League clash.

Match Context and Title Race Stakes

Arsenal secured a vital victory over West Ham thanks to a late strike from Leandro Trossard. This result positions Mikel Arteta’s team to clinch their first Premier League title in 22 years by defeating Burnley at home and Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. While 3,000 Arsenal fans celebrated from the away end, social media footage reveals some ventured into home areas, sparking confrontation.

Violent Clash Captured on Video

Viral video shows a male fan tumbling down a staircase in the stadium’s upper tier, pursued by a group of enraged supporters. Stadiums enforce strict policies prohibiting fans from buying tickets in rival sections to prevent such violence.

VAR Controversy Denies West Ham Equalizer

Off-field tension mirrored on-pitch drama, as West Ham’s late equalizer from Callum Wilson was overturned by VAR. The decision stemmed from teammate Pablo fouling Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya during the buildup. VAR official Darren England reviewed replays extensively before directing referee Chris Kavanagh to the monitor. Kavanagh confirmed Pablo’s arm impeded Raya, preserving Arsenal’s lead and extending their advantage to five points over Manchester City.

Schmeichel Slams VAR Call

Manchester United legend Peter Schmeichel condemned the ruling on Viaplay, calling it ‘wrong on so many levels.’ He argued, ‘Arsenal would never be top of the league if that’s a free kick. That’s how they’ve scored so many goals by blocking people, holding people.’ Schmeichel questioned the delay and inconsistency, stating, ‘It cannot be a free kick… I just don’t understand why all of a sudden that’s a free kick.’

Bowen’s Frustration Over Inconsistency

West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen voiced disappointment post-match, highlighting goalkeeper protection disparities. ‘Goalkeepers are protected more than outfield players,’ he said. ‘If you’re going to give it, you have to give it to every single one… Where’s the consistency?’ Bowen added, ‘When you look at the screen for five minutes, you’ll find something.’

The win keeps Arsenal’s title hopes alive, while West Ham sit a point above the relegation zone despite an extra game played.
