Two men posing as water company workers have swindled a householder out of nearly £500 at a property off Curborough Road in Lichfield, Staffordshire.
The fraudsters, dressed in blue jackets bearing company logos, visited the home twice. One carried an iPad while the other held a clipboard. Both wore lanyards displaying official-looking credentials. The resident handed over £80 during the first visit and £400 on the second occasion, each between 10am and 10:15am.
Suspect Descriptions
Authorities describe the suspects as follows:
- One man, approximately 25 years old, 6ft tall, of Asian appearance.
- The other man, of black ethnicity.
Both wore blue jackets with company logos, lanyards, and carried items suggesting legitimacy—one an iPad, the other a clipboard.
Police Response and Appeal
Staffordshire Police received a report of suspicious activity on Tuesday, March 3, at 8pm. Officers are reviewing CCTV and doorbell footage from the area.
A police spokesperson stated: “We urge residents to remain vigilant against individuals posing as utility workers who demand cash payments. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity is asked to come forward.”
