Draymond Green voiced his desire to avoid resembling Charles Barkley during his Houston Rockets days as he guest-hosted on Inside the NBA before the New York Knicks’ playoff victory over the Philadelphia 76ers.
The On-Air Exchange
The 36-year-old Golden State Warriors forward filled in for Shaquille O’Neal and reflected on his team’s playoff miss this season. When Barkley noted that all careers end and sports favor the young, Green fired back sharply.
‘I think the goal is just to not look like you in the Houston Rockets uniform,’ Green told the 63-year-old NBA legend. Barkley stayed composed, while co-host Kenny Smith pressed Green for clarification. Green followed up by asking, ‘Did you see it?’
Barkley’s Houston Rockets Legacy
Barkley arrived in Houston in 1996 via trade from Phoenix—after 10 consecutive All-Star nods—in exchange for Chucky Brown, Mark Bryant, Sam Cassell, and Robert Horry. Despite critiques on his defense and conditioning later in his career, he delivered strong numbers.
Over his final four NBA seasons with the Rockets, Barkley averaged 17 points and 12.6 rebounds per game. His production dipped partly due to sharing the court with Hall of Famers Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler.
Fan Backlash on Social Media
Supporters quickly rallied behind Barkley on X, slamming Green’s remark. One user stated, ‘I generally love the show, but I turn it off when Draymond is on.’
Others echoed the sentiment: ‘Barkley was right. Green is a jerk.’ Critics questioned the decision to feature Green, calling it ‘beyond ridiculous.’
Fans highlighted stats to counter Green, noting his 2025-26 averages of 8.4 points and 5.5 rebounds fell short of Barkley’s late-career output. ‘The lack of self awareness this guy has is amazing. Houston Chuck is better than peak Draymond,’ one posted.
Another added, ‘[I don’t know] why he said this cuz Charles’ last season was better than Draymonds best.’
