A beloved Bafta-winning comedy series, This Country, captivates a new generation of viewers nine years after its 2017 debut. Created by real-life siblings Daisy May Cooper and Charlie Cooper, the mockumentary draws from their Cotswolds upbringing in Cirencester, Gloucestershire.
Show Overview
The series features the siblings as cousins Kerry and Lee “Kurtan” Mucklowe in a fictional Cotswolds town. Over three seasons, episodes explore their everyday mishaps, from mundane routines to absurd predicaments. The first season highlights Kurtan’s rural life struggles, the second follows Kerry’s search for her father, and the third involves the local vicar.
The show concluded on BBC Three in 2020, but all episodes remain available for free on BBC iPlayer, fueling ongoing enthusiasm.
Fan Enthusiasm on Social Media
Viewers continue to share their passion online. One Instagram user posted: “Only just discovered this show in 2026 and absolutely loved every episode!! Not woke, not pushing agendas, just good. It’s genuinely funny entertainment, reminding me of my own youth in late 80s early 90s when humour was actually allowed and not political.”
Others echoed the praise: “Best show ever,” one fan commented. A third added: “Fr. This show brings a smile no matter how bad one feels.” Additional posts declared it the “best show ever” and called for more episodes: “@daisymaycooper We need more.” One viewer described it as “My comfort tv show with pasta and sauce or a pot noodle.”
No Plans for Return
Daisy May Cooper, the lead actress and co-creator, has ruled out reviving the series. She cited her recent weight loss and cosmetic changes as obstacles, stating: “We can’t do This Country, though, because I’ve lost so much weight and I’ve had my lips done. We’d have to say that Kerry’s had a tapeworm and been stung by a bee.”
Cooper is developing a new project with her brother instead.
