Mark Goldbridge declares Gary Neville holds no sway over his content despite a seven-figure sale of his YouTube channels to Neville’s The Overlap. The outspoken Manchester United fan channel host vows to maintain his fiery style and challenge differing views.
Deal Overview
The Overlap, majority owned by Global, acquires The United Stand and That’s Football, channels with 3.7 million combined subscribers. Goldbridge continues fronting both, fueling major expansions like ‘Stick to United’ with ex-players and journalists, plus ‘The Daily United’ for daily Red Devils updates. Plans extend to top European clubs.
Goldbridge Stands Firm
Brent Di Cesare, known as Mark Goldbridge, assures fans: “Creative control [remains with] The United Stand. If you want to get proved wrong, keep watching.”
He adds: “You’re thinking me and Gary haven’t always got on – and we haven’t. I’ve said plenty of things over the years and I’m sure there’s plenty I’ve said that he would disagree with. That’s not going to change.”
“I’ve got creative control and people can’t stop me from doing what I was going to do. I’m not selling my entire business. I will continue to be what I am and The United Stand will continue to be what it is. If something is wrong, I will say it.”
“We’re not going to change. Me and Gary and everybody else we’re going to talk to, we may disagree at times, but what we share is a love for United and a love for football.”
History of Clashes
Videos resurface showing Goldbridge critiquing Neville, including an 11-minute rant titled ‘THE PROBLEM WITH GARY NEVILLE!’ accusing him of INEOS ties. In streams, Goldbridge mocked Neville firing Jamie Carragher for watching his content, parodying a ‘Gary Says’ game like ‘Simon Says.’
Neville once rejected inviting Goldbridge to The Overlap on X with a flat “No.”
Overlap’s Vision
Gary Neville, The Overlap executive director, states: “We are building what we believe will become one of the most exciting independent football communities in the world – one that gives fans direct, personality-led content. The United Stand and That’s Football are two of the best-known football channels on YouTube, and our intention is to develop them into the most compelling Manchester United and football news channels in the market.”
Goldbridge reflects: “I’ve spent the last 10 years building The United Stand for Manchester United fans and That’s Football for all fans, and I’m prouder of that than anything I’ve ever done. This deal is about what comes next. The Overlap has the ambition, the credibility, and the resources to help me take what I do to the next level.”
Scott Melvin, co-founder and executive director, explains: “The market for independent football content is growing rapidly and the opportunity to build a genuinely scaled network within it is one we have been working towards for some time. The Overlap exists to build the infrastructure, partnerships, and editorial range that allows the best channels to reach their full potential. Mark has built two of the biggest audiences in this space, and this deal accelerates everything we are building towards.”
Broader Context
Global took majority control of The Overlap in January. Goldbridge’s channels recently gained 2025-26 Bundesliga broadcast rights for 20 matches on That’s Football, mirroring The Overlap’s deals.
