Montag Declares Husband an ‘Inspiration’ Following Mayoral Bid
A week after Spencer Pratt was officially eliminated from the race for Los Angeles Mayor, his wife Heidi Montag has broken her silence, expressing deep admiration for her husband and referring to him as her “hero.” The former reality television personality had remained publicly quiet in the days following the primary election, during which Pratt, 42, was in contention for a runoff spot.
However, progressive challenger Nithya Raman ultimately pulled ahead in the vote count, ousting Pratt from the competition. Pratt had initially entered the mayoral race after his family experienced the loss of their home in the Palisades during last year’s wildfires, and he has been vocal about his dissatisfaction with local government responses.
Montag Shares Heartfelt Message on X
On Sunday, Montag took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to share her feelings about her husband’s campaign. “I couldn’t love my husband more and be more proud of him. What an inspiration, what a hero,” she tweeted, showcasing her unwavering support.
Pratt had maintained a strong second-place position until the previous Sunday, when Raman’s vote count surged as California officials continued to process mail-in ballots. The following evening, The Associated Press confirmed that Raman would advance to a runoff election against incumbent Democrat Mayor Karen Bass, officially marking Pratt’s exit from the race.
Pratt’s Campaign Trail and Celebrity Endorsements
In California’s electoral system, the top two vote-getters proceed to a November runoff, irrespective of party affiliation. Pratt, known for his previous appearances on the reality show ‘The Hills,’ injected a unique dynamic into the race, framing it as a personal stand against Mayor Bass following the loss of his $3 million home in the Palisades fire. His campaign gained traction through user-created AI videos and innovative advertising, with Pratt pledging to be a catalyst for change and address the city’s significant homelessness crisis.
Throughout his campaign, Pratt garnered considerable support from various celebrities. Kelsey Grammer of ‘Frasier’ fame was among the Hollywood figures endorsing Pratt, telling one outlet, “He’s the only guy that’s a real option.” Actor Dennis Quaid also voiced his backing, responding to inquiries about his support by stating, “Why? What are you talking about? Why? Just look around, man.” Additionally, Katharine McPhee and David Foster hosted a fundraising event for Pratt earlier this year, contributing to his campaign efforts.
Celebrity Support and Campaign Promises
Selma Blair offered her support by commenting “voted” under one of Pratt’s posts, while Paris Hilton expressed her encouragement with a “LFG.” DJ Diplo also chimed in with a simple “please.” On election night, June 2, Pratt had expressed confidence in his prospects for reaching the runoff. Addressing reporters outside a private watch party with family and supporters, he stated, “She knows it’s on. I hope she’s ready. I literally could not be more excited.”
Pratt officially announced his mayoral candidacy on the one-year anniversary of the devastating fires. He publicly criticized the city’s governance, stating in January, “The system in Los Angeles isn’t struggling, it’s fundamentally broken. It is a machine designed to protect the people at the top and the friends they exchange favors with while the rest of us drown in toxic smoke and ash. Business as usual is a death sentence for Los Angeles, and I’m done waiting for someone to take real action.” He further elaborated, “That’s why I am running for mayor. And let me be clear, this just isn’t a campaign, this is a mission, and we’re gonna expose the system. They intentionally let us burn before, during and after. There was no accountability. It was gross negligence. They let this happen. It wasn’t a natural disaster or something that was unavoidable. It was their fault, and we need the accountability we deserve.”
