Juventus Pursue Everton Forward Beto
Juventus have submitted an inquiry for Everton striker Beto as they seek to bolster their attack before the transfer window closes on Monday. However, Everton officials remain hesitant to allow the 28-year-old to depart at this late stage without securing a suitable replacement.
The Italian club has identified acquiring a new center-forward as a key objective. Earlier, they explored a potential deal for Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta, engaging in discussions with his representatives about a loan arrangement that included an option or obligation to buy. Ultimately, Juventus declined to meet Palace’s £35 million valuation for the French international.
Beto’s Performance and Everton’s Stance
This shift in focus has led Juventus to consider Beto, who joined Everton from Udinese for £25.8 million. The Portuguese-born Guinea-Bissau international has struggled to consistently find the net since arriving in England. In his first season, he scored five goals across all competitions; the second brought ten. This campaign, he has netted four times, including three in the Premier League.
With only Beto and Thierno Barry as senior strikers in the squad, Everton prioritizes squad depth and shows no willingness to offload him without incoming reinforcements. His most recent contribution came in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Brighton, where he scored in the seventh minute of stoppage time to secure a vital point for the visitors.
Moyes Comments on Beto’s Form
Everton manager David Moyes expressed optimism about Beto’s latest goal potentially reigniting his season. “I’m really pleased for Beto because it’s hard to convey how dedicated he is as a worker,” Moyes stated after the match. “He’s putting in every effort to improve his form, and goals are what fuel him. He craves scoring. Sometimes, one goal can shift momentum. Last year around this time, when I first joined, he embarked on an impressive scoring streak. I hope this sparks that confidence again.”
Despite his efforts, Beto has yet to achieve double-digit goals in the Premier League over his three seasons with Everton.
Potential Incoming for Everton
As Beto appears likely to remain at Goodison Park, Everton continues efforts to strengthen their forward line. The club is preparing a strong push to sign Chelsea winger Tyrique George, which could provide additional attacking options.
