Maya Jama Arrives in Grand Style at Royal Ascot
Maya Jama made a dramatic entrance at Royal Ascot on Friday, opting for a luxurious helicopter journey from London to the prestigious Berkshire racecourse. The television personality documented her VIP experience via Instagram, offering glimpses of her sophisticated ensemble. This year, Jama joined a trend among many racegoers, drawing inspiration from the iconic style of the film My Fair Lady.
The glamorous start to her day was shared in an Instagram video, where Jama and a companion were seen enjoying wine at a London helipad. In a spirited declaration, Jama announced, “Clink clink motherf**ket, the boys are back in the town and we’re getting on a helicopter to go to the races. Yee haw!”
A Nod to Classic Cinema
Jama’s striking outfit featured a cinched white jacket that accentuated her figure, paired with a matching skirt and an elegant black hat. This ensemble echoed the memorable looks sported by fellow celebrities Holly Willoughby and Maura Higgins at Ascot earlier in the week. The enduring influence of Audrey Hepburn’s black-and-white attire from the 1964 film continues to inspire attendees at the renowned British racing festival, more than six decades after Hepburn’s famous line, “Come on, Dover!”
This season’s Royal Ascot has showcased several standout looks that put a contemporary spin on Cecil Beaton’s Oscar-winning costume designs for the film. While these modern interpretations may not achieve the same historical acclaim, attendees like Maura Higgins have clearly paid a fitting tribute to the cinematic classic. Higgins, 35, shared her vision on Instagram, stating, “A vision brought to life for Royal Ascot,” and even featured the film’s soundtrack over her post.
Celebrity Style at the Races
Holly Willoughby also embraced the My Fair Lady aesthetic. The television presenter, 45, posted images of her chic ensemble before heading to the racecourse. Her outfit consisted of a white pleated skirt and a sophisticated wrapover jacket, complemented by all-white accessories. These included an elegant wide-brimmed hat from Jane Taylor London and a £750 Aspinal midi Mayfair bag, with a bold pop of ruby red lipstick completing the look.
Adhering to Royal Ascot’s Dress Code
Maya Jama’s attire also met the stringent dress code for the Royal Enclosure, the most exclusive area of the racecourse. Her entry badge for this prestigious section was visible as she showcased her outfit. The regulations for the Royal Enclosure stipulate that ladies must wear dresses or skirts falling to or below the knee, with shoulder straps at least one inch wide. Hats or headpieces with a solid base of four inches in diameter are mandatory, while fascinators and novelty hats are prohibited. Additionally, strapless, off-the-shoulder, and one-shoulder garments are not permitted in the Royal and Queen Anne Enclosures. Trouser suits, a long-standing option since 1971, are permitted provided they are not mismatched.
This year’s official lookbook for the event was curated by menswear specialist Daniel Fletcher, known for his previous design work with prominent fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, JW Anderson, and Victoria Beckham.
