Actress Milly Alcock Spotted in New York, Unfazed by Online Criticism
Milly Alcock, the recently cast lead in the upcoming Supergirl film, was observed in New York City this week, appearing unconcerned by recent online commentary regarding her appearance. The Australian actress opted for a relaxed, off-duty style while running errands and grabbing an iced coffee. Her natural beauty was on full display as she went makeup-free, showcasing clear skin.
Alcock, 26, sported a striped shirt knotted at her hip, drawing attention to her midriff, paired with black parachute pants and designer ballet flats. Her blonde hair appeared casually tousled, and she completed her ensemble with oversized sunglasses, a water bottle, and her phone.
Backlash Over Casting and Dean Cain’s Reaction
The public discussion surrounding Alcock’s casting as the iconic DC Comics character has been notable. The controversy gained traction after Dean Cain, who previously portrayed Superman in the 1990s television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, seemingly commented on her appearance. Cain, 59, responded to a social media post that likened Alcock to a character from the 1974 series Land of the Lost. The post included an unflattering image of the character and a question about the resemblance. Cain’s reply, which included “Dang it… I laughed,” followed by a smiling emoji, quickly drew criticism from some corners of the internet.
This reaction led to a flurry of online commentary from fans, with some expressing disappointment and accusing Cain of bitterness. “What a fantastic way to kill your legacy. And what a glorious way to lose the respect of millions of kids that looked up to you three decades ago. What a disgrace,” wrote one user. Another commented, “Your Superman performance is never going to be looked back upon fondly, your bitter jealousy has tainted any legacy you had left.”
Cain later clarified his stance, stating that he “never said she was ugly,” but appeared largely unconcerned by the ensuing debate.
Alcock’s Defiant Response to Criticism
Alcock herself has addressed the backlash, choosing to largely disregard the negative commentary. Speaking with Variety Magazine, the Sydney-born actress indicated that she is unfazed by the criticism, particularly from anonymous online accounts. “[The criticism] is from a lot of people whose profiles have no photo, who are burner accounts, or someone’s name and then ‘Dad of four, Christian,’ which is hilarious to me,” Alcock stated. She added, “I mean, whose opinion do you really care about? If you’re p***ing the right kind of people off, you’re doing okay!”
Alcock’s portrayal of Supergirl is part of a larger DC Studios initiative to reimagine its superhero universe on the big screen.
