Former Los Angeles Chargers safety Nasir Adderley announces his return to the NFL three years after retiring at age 25. The 28-year-old revealed his decision in a statement posted to social media on Monday.

Adderley’s Statement on Comeback

“It’s now been three years since I left the NFL, and I am extremely happy with my development,” Adderley stated. “Health, family and entrepreneurship were my top priorities, and I’m proud of what I’ve been able to accomplish. The freedom to manage my own schedule was very important to me, but what I didn’t realize was how much I’d miss having football in my life.”

He continued, “The competition, the brotherhood and just being involved in the game that means so much to me and my family. Therefore, I am officially announcing my intention to return to the NFL.”

Career Background and Stats

A Philadelphia native who played college football at the University of Delaware, Adderley entered the league as the Chargers’ second-round pick, 60th overall, in the 2019 NFL Draft. Over four seasons with Los Angeles, he recorded 232 total tackles, half a sack, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, three interceptions, and 12 pass deflections.

His final season stood out with 62 tackles—including 39 solo— one forced fumble, and two interceptions. Adderley retired as a free agent after his rookie contract expired, positioning him to sign with any interested team.

Potential Impact on NFL Landscape

As a free agent, Adderley draws attention from NFL teams seeking defensive talent. His youth and proven skills make him a compelling option for a league comeback.
