With the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 just one month away, anticipation builds for the UK’s entry, Look Mum No Computer. 2022 runner-up Sam Ryder shared his top piece of advice for the performer.
Ryder’s Encouraging Words
Speaking at the Olivier Awards, Ryder emphasized the unique value of each participant’s journey. “I say the same thing I do every single year,” he stated. “I had my experience in it, and everyone’s going to have theirs, and all of them are sacred experiences.”
He added: “Everyone coming from around the world to jump on that stage have got friends, families, loved ones that are cheering them on, and they all want to see them do well. So I hope that whoever has the guts to get on that stage and sing in front of that bonkers amount of people walks off of it feeling like they gave it everything, and creates a memory for them that will last a lifetime.”
Look Mum No Computer’s Entry
Look Mum No Computer, real name Sam Battle, unveiled his Eurovision track Eins, Zwei, Drei last month. The song blends synthesizers and electronic bass to celebrate breaking free from the monotony of the daily grind.
Battle expressed his excitement: “I am absolutely buzzing that the world can finally hear what we have created. Eins, Zwei, Drei was born during a session with the other writers and producers on my synthesizer ‘Kosmo’, and I couldn’t be prouder of it. I want people to be able to dance, shout, singalong, and just embrace the absurd jubilation that I hope it sparks when you listen to it. We’re working hard on pulling together all the elements to make it one of the wildest performances to ever grace the Eurovision stage, which is no small feat! See you in Vienna!”
Ryder’s Post-Eurovision Success
Ryder’s Space Man secured second place at the 2022 contest in Turin, Italy, behind Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra. This outcome led the UK to host the following year’s event, as Ukraine could not. Since then, Ryder has released two studio albums and landed the lead role in the West End revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar.
Recent Stage Triumph
The singer recently performed Gethsemane at The National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals, earning strong praise. Ryder, who had been off his phone for weeks, remained unaware of the response initially. “I had no idea about the reaction!” he shared. “I haven’t had a phone for ages, for like, six weeks, and I’ve been trying to stay off it. So all I’ve been told is by friends and family that it went well. So I’m just trusting that, they could be lying completely.”
He continued: “All I know is how it felt in the moment, and it was the most fun I’ve had singing easily in the last six years. As a singer, all I’m chasing is that feeling of being present and that performance of Gethsemane, I felt present the whole time. That’s the goal, whatever happens after that, how it’s received, nothing to do with me.”
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 grand final airs on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
