Band Background
The announcement follows tributes to founding drummer Andrew ‘The Clobberer’ Ranken, who passed away last month. Ranken helped form the band in 1983 and performed on all studio albums and live shows until the group’s first hiatus in 1996.
Frontman Shane MacGowan died peacefully from pneumonia in hospital on November 30, 2023, at age 65. His funeral occurred in Nenagh, County Tipperary, on December 8, 2023.
Last year, surviving members embarked on their first headline tour in over a decade to mark the 40th anniversary of ‘Rum Sodomy & The Lash,’ enlisting special guests to cover MacGowan’s parts.
Spider Stacy praised emerging acts, stating: “Fontaines [D.C.] are a fantastic band, but they’re very much carrying their own torch. And Kneecap – Irish-language rappers – are without precedent. If you’re talking about bands like Lankum and The Mary Wallopers, that’s a different story because it’s more Pogues-like territory – to hear them doing what we do in their unique way is exciting. All of those bands are immense.”
