Expert Mechanic Praises Honda for Unmatched Reliability
A seasoned car mechanic has identified a Japanese manufacturer as producing the world’s most dependable vehicles, sharing his insights on selecting quality used cars. James Goodhand, an author with extensive automotive knowledge, exclusively detailed his recommendations for consumers.
When questioned about the most reliable car brand, Goodhand unequivocally pointed to the renowned Japanese automaker, Honda. “If the budget allows, opt for Japanese. Honda is the pinnacle,” he stated. “They are truly the foremost vehicle engineers globally. Were everyone to drive a Honda, my business would cease to exist.”
Goodhand elaborated on his preference, citing Honda’s “outstanding reliability.” He offered a compelling example: a 20-year-old Honda Civic with over 200,000 miles. “The engine runs so smoothly you could balance a cup of tea on it, and it’s remarkably quiet – you’d struggle to tell if it’s even on,” he described. “This vehicle has accumulated enough mileage to travel to the moon.”
Regarding his personal vehicle choices, Goodhand revealed he drives a Volvo V90, a Swedish marque, alongside another cherished car.
Personal Fleet and Unexpected Choices
“It will likely come as no surprise that we own a Volvo V90,” Goodhand commented. “However, it’s also worth noting that I’ve owned a BMW M3 for fifteen years. It has served as our family car at various times, and it’s actually the car my son returned home from the maternity ward in.”
This endorsement of Honda’s exceptional quality aligns with previous expert assessments. Last year, automotive specialists at WhatCar? included the latest Honda Jazz in their top three small cars tested, highlighting its exceptional practicality.
Honda Jazz Acclaimed for Practicality and Reliability
Reviewers noted the Honda Jazz’s unique appeal: “The Honda Jazz is one of those cars that, much like exceptional performers, possesses diverse talents but hasn’t yet received the widespread recognition it arguably deserves. While consistently praised for its practical interior and stellar reliability record, it has historically fallen short of the significant sales figures achieved by some of its more conventional small car competitors.”
These positive evaluations of both recent and older Honda models emerge amidst ongoing discussions about the manufacturer’s potential adjustments to its UK manufacturing presence. Following nearly four decades of vehicle production near Swindon, reports suggested the company was considering relocating its manufacturing facilities.
Former Honda Site Transformation Underway
In 2021, Honda ceased operations at its South Marston factory, which had been producing vehicles since 1985. Following this closure, plans were approved for the site’s redevelopment into a significant commercial hub, now known as Panattoni Park, a £900 million project with construction commencing in 2024.
At the project’s unveiling, Swindon Borough Council leader Jim Robbins expressed optimism: “I am extremely pleased to see development finally progressing on the former Honda site. This will future-proof the Swindon economy, generating thousands of new jobs and bringing substantial investment in biodiversity, local infrastructure, and public access. This clearly signals that Swindon is very much open for business and is a town on the rise.”
