Man Accused of Major Fraud Scheme Appears in Court
A local man has made his initial court appearance following charges related to a significant fraud scheme, allegedly involving tens of thousands of pounds and the theft of personal information. Daniel Robertson, residing on Burbage Road in Penhill, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday, June 19, facing multiple accusations of fraudulent activity.
Detailed Allegations Unveiled
The 35-year-old, whose court appearance followed his birthday, faces charges including two counts of fraud, possession of an article for use in fraud, two counts of failing to comply with a serious crime prevention order, and transferring criminal property. Court proceedings revealed allegations that between August 30 and September 27, 2024, Robertson submitted falsified payslips to Betway Group Ltd in an attempt to defraud the company of £18,705.
Further accusations detail the alleged use of stolen personal information and counterfeit documents to secure loans totaling £54,300. These alleged fraudulent loan applications occurred between February 3 and April 13, 2026, though the specific institutions from which these loans were obtained have not yet been disclosed by the court.
Violation of Serious Crime Prevention Order
In addition to the fraud charges, court documents indicate Robertson was found in possession of altered bank statements used in connection with fraudulent activities. The funds obtained through these alleged fraudulent loans were reportedly transferred via bank transactions.
Robertson was reportedly subject to a criminal court order that mandated notification to Wiltshire Police of any new bank accounts opened or loans applied for. The charges state he allegedly breached this order multiple times between August 2024 and April 2026. During this period, he is accused of establishing a total of nine new bank accounts under various aliases without informing the authorities.
Case Adjourned for Plea Entry
Robertson was scheduled to enter pleas to all six charges on Friday, June 19. However, the court determined that additional time was required, leading to an adjournment of the hearing. He is now scheduled to reappear at Swindon Crown Court on July 10 to formally enter his pleas. A provisional trial date has been set for August 10, contingent on Robertson pleading not guilty to the charges.
