Apple AirTags See Significant Price Drop for Prime Day
For iPhone users seeking to keep tabs on their belongings, Apple’s AirTag trackers are now available at a substantially reduced price as part of an early Prime Day promotion. These compact Bluetooth devices, first introduced in 2021, offer a robust solution for locating lost items.
Enhanced Features in Second-Generation AirTags
The latest second-generation AirTag boasts notable improvements over its predecessor. According to manufacturer specifications, this newer model features a 50 percent increase in tracking range and a speaker that is 50 percent louder, facilitating easier location of attached items. Users can attach AirTags to keychains, bags, or even place them discreetly in vehicles.
How AirTags Work
AirTags operate by anonymously leveraging the vast network of iPhones present in the public. When a lost item with an AirTag is in proximity to another iPhone, its location is anonymously reported and updated on the owner’s Find My app. This allows users to see the last known connected location of their AirTag on a map. If an individual finds a misplaced item with an AirTag, they can scan it with their iPhone to help facilitate its return to the rightful owner.
Prime Day Savings on Multi-Packs
Individually, the second-generation AirTags are priced at £29. Purchasing four units separately would amount to £116. However, Apple offers a 4-pack for £99. Currently, through an early Prime Day promotion, shoppers can acquire this 4-pack for £84.55. This represents a 15 percent discount, bringing the cost per AirTag down to just over £21.
AirTags have proven to be exceptionally popular, holding the position of Amazon’s best-selling product in the “item finders” category. While I haven’t personally tested the newest iteration, I have been using three older AirTags for approximately five years. These have proven invaluable for locating misplaced keys, remembering parking locations, and providing peace of mind during travel, such as ensuring checked luggage arrived safely on a trip to New Zealand. Battery replacements, using standard CR2032 batteries, have been infrequent.
Alternative Tracking Options Available
While AirTags offer a compelling solution for iPhone users, alternative trackers are also on the market. For instance, Chipolo offers Bluetooth trackers compatible with both iPhone and Android devices, a feature not supported by AirTags. Additionally, a two-pack of Tile Mate trackers is currently available at Argos for £22, presenting another viable option for those seeking item-tracking capabilities.
