A 33-year-old man has entered pleas of not guilty to the attempted murder of ten individuals aboard an LNER train traveling from Doncaster to London King’s Cross. The alleged incident occurred on November 1, 2025, shortly after the train stopped at Peterborough. Several passengers sustained serious injuries during the event.

Court Appearance and Charges

Anthony Williams, residing at Langford Road in Peterborough, appeared before Cambridge Crown Court via video link from Rampton Hospital. He formally denied the ten charges of attempted murder related to the train incident. In addition to these, Williams also pleaded not guilty to eleven other offenses. These include four separate charges of attempted murder stemming from alleged attacks in Peterborough and east London that preceded the train incident.

During the court proceedings, Williams, dressed in a white T-shirt, appeared hunched and responded “not guilty” to each charge read out. The court heard that the 18:25 service from Doncaster on the day of the incident was diverted and brought to a halt at Huntingdon, where Williams was subsequently apprehended. Emergency services received multiple calls from passengers on the train reporting the unfolding events.

Details of Alleged Attacks

In total, Anthony Williams faces 21 charges. The ten individuals named in the attempted murder charges concerning the train incident are Jonathan Gjoshe, Sachin Balakrishnan, David Presland, Scott Bletcher, Scott Green, Kevin Deely, Stephen Crean, Raza Aslam, Michael Paffett, and Samir Zitouni. These alleged attacks took place near Huntingdon on November 1, 2025.

Further charges relate to alleged offenses on the preceding day, October 31, 2025, in Peterborough. Williams is accused of attempting to murder Dawid Taborski, William Ogelby, and a 14-year-old boy. Additionally, an alleged attempted murder of a 17-year-old boy in East London in the early hours of November 1, 2025, forms another charge.

The remaining seven charges encompass a range of offenses. These include three counts of possessing a bladed article, one charge of assaulting a police officer, and one charge of common assault, which is alleged to have occurred on another train. The prosecution is building a case that suggests a pattern of violent acts prior to and during the train journey.

Legal Proceedings and Trial Schedule

Williams’s legal team has entered not guilty pleas across all counts, indicating a defense strategy that will likely challenge the prosecution’s evidence. The court has set a trial date for October 26, when these serious allegations will be further examined. The trial is expected to delve into the events of the days leading up to and including the incident on the LNER service.

The case highlights the significant challenges faced by law enforcement and the justice system in addressing incidents of mass violence. The complexities involve establishing intent, identifying victims, and piecing together a timeline of events across different locations. The court’s proceedings will aim to ascertain the facts and determine guilt or innocence based on the evidence presented.

Context of the Incident

The incident on the LNER train sent shockwaves through the community, emphasizing the vulnerability of public transport. The swift response from passengers and emergency services is credited with preventing further harm. The diversion of the train to Huntingdon allowed for a rapid police response and the apprehension of the suspect.

Williams’s appearance from Rampton Hospital suggests that his mental state may be a factor considered during the legal process. However, the not guilty pleas indicate that the defense intends to contest the charges on their merits. The upcoming trial will be crucial in determining the outcome for all parties involved.

Conclusion

As the legal process unfolds, the focus remains on the upcoming trial scheduled for October 26. Anthony Williams stands accused of a series of serious offenses, including the attempted murder of ten people on a train and prior incidents. His pleas of not guilty set the stage for a comprehensive examination of the evidence in court, aiming to deliver justice for the alleged victims and resolve the charges against him.
