Tyson Fury seeks an additional bout this year before clashing with Anthony Joshua, according to his promoter Frank Warren.
Fury and Joshua recently signed a contract for their highly anticipated showdown, expected to occur in the UK this autumn, possibly in November. The exact date and venue remain unconfirmed.
Upcoming Fights for Both Boxers
Anthony Joshua faces Kristian Prenga in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on July 25. Fury appears poised for a similar interim matchup.
Frank Warren indicated that Fury likely wants action before the autumn. “I think he will probably want to be doing something in between. Let’s see,” Warren stated. “AJ has got his fight. Tyson I’m quite sure will have a fight in between. That’s what he’s asking for, and we’ll see where we go from there.”
Fury’s manager, Spencer Brown, echoed this view. “The thing is, Tyson was out of the ring for two years, just jumped back in. We’ll probably want another fight before the AJ fight – a proper warm-up fight – and then we’re all ready to go, ready to rock and roll,” Brown said. “But it will be nice for Tyson to have one more fight before we step in. Anthony wants one more fight, so if it’s in July, we won’t be able to do anything ‘til October, November, December. So, [a warm-up fight] is going to have to happen quite rapidly.”
Recent Activity and History
The 37-year-old Fury last competed on April 11, securing a unanimous decision victory over Arslanbek Makhmudov at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. This marked his fifth return from retirement, 16 months after his prior fight.
Joshua, 36, attended that event ringside but declined a post-fight confrontation, awaiting the official contract signing.
Path to the Superfight
Joshua’s bout against the 35-year-old Prenga, who holds a 20-1 record with 20 knockouts but lacks notable opponents, serves as the final step toward the Fury-Joshua matchup. This clash between former heavyweight champions has generated buzz for nearly a decade.
A deal was inked in 2021, but Deontay Wilder’s legal challenge prompted Fury’s trilogy fight, ending in a knockout win for Fury.
Fury’s push for another fight introduces a potential obstacle. While both boxers should navigate their warm-ups without issue, injury risks loom large for the main event.
