Bath stands out as the world’s top city for green spaces, surpassing major destinations like London and Edinburgh. This recognition comes from a 2026 global ranking of the planet’s best cities for greenery, compiled from a survey of 24,000 urban residents worldwide.

Residents rated their city’s parks, gardens, and nature access as either “good” or “amazing,” resulting in an overall green spaces score. Bath achieved the highest mark at 94%, highlighting its blend of compact green areas and expansive natural zones.

Bath’s Prime Location and Greenery

Nestled on the southwestern edge of the Cotswolds, Bath benefits from surrounding countryside that enhances its urban appeal. The city integrates numerous green spaces into its historic layout, offering residents and visitors easy access to nature amid Georgian architecture and Roman remnants.

Bath holds dual UNESCO World Heritage status, celebrated for its ancient Roman sites and elegant 18th-century buildings that harmonize with the landscape.

Key Green Attractions in Bath

Royal Victoria Park spans 57 acres below the iconic Royal Crescent. It features a nine-acre Botanical Garden, an adventure playground, skate park, and crazy golf. Seasonal highlights include winter ice rinks and summer hot air balloon launches from its lawns.

Prior Park Landscape Garden occupies a scenic valley with panoramic city views. It boasts one of just four surviving Palladian bridges globally. Steep woodland trails provide peaceful walks and wildlife sightings.

Sydney Gardens, Bath’s oldest park, preserves an 18th-century pleasure garden. The Kennet and Avon Canal weaves through it, crossed by historic cast-iron bridges. Jane Austen frequented the area during her time nearby.

Alexandra Park delivers stunning skyline vistas, accessible via the challenging Jacob’s Ladder steps or a milder path from Shakespeare Avenue.

Central Parade Gardens overlooks Pulteney Bridge and its weir, while Henrietta Park offers a serene retreat with a Remembrance Water Garden.
