Barcelona leads LaLiga by nine points and eyes a second straight title ahead of Real Madrid. Despite this domestic success, the club faces another early Champions League exit after falling to Atletico Madrid. Coach Hansi Flick and the board now focus on a major squad rebuild this summer.

Five Players Facing Departure

Club officials identify five players who have reached the end of their current roles and plan to move them on. This strategy aims to refresh the roster and address financial pressures.

Marcus Rashford

The 28-year-old forward, on loan from Manchester United, has delivered 12 goals and 13 assists this season, powering Barcelona’s LaLiga dominance. However, the club declines to activate the £26 million purchase option. Efforts to renegotiate the fee with United failed, as the clause expires June 15—shortly after the World Cup begins in North America. Rashford may return to his hometown club post-tournament if selected for England.

Robert Lewandowski

The striker, who arrived from Bayern Munich in 2022, sees his contract expire this summer. Concerns over his age and recent fitness issues cast doubt on any extension. Barcelona seeks to create salary space by parting ways with high earners.

Frenkie de Jong

Midfielder Frenkie de Jong earns nearly €400,000 (£348,000) weekly. Selling him stands to significantly lighten the club’s financial load amid ongoing economic challenges.

Andreas Christensen

Former Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen featured in 161 matches over six years with the Blues before joining Barcelona in 2022 on a four-year contract. That deal concludes this summer, with no renewal plans in place.

Marc Casado

La Masia product Marc Casado has two years remaining on his deal but struggles for playing time. The defensive midfielder has started just one of Barcelona’s last eight LaLiga games, overshadowed by Pedri, Eric Garcia, and Gavi. He likely seeks opportunities elsewhere.

These moves signal Barcelona’s commitment to a leaner, more dynamic squad for future campaigns.
