Connecticut Woman Arrested for Murder in Decade-Old Dumpster Baby Case
A Connecticut woman has been arrested and charged with murder, nearly a decade after the discovery of a newborn baby’s body in a dumpster. Dominique Harrison, 28, now faces murder charges in connection with the infant found in 2018.
Harrison appeared in court on Monday for her arraignment. Prosecutors allege that she abandoned her baby, who was alive at the time of birth, in a remote area.
Allegations of Depravity and Intent
During the court proceedings, Deputy Assistant State’s Attorney Mary Caitlin Harding described the case as depicting “a level of depravity that is nearly inconceivable.” Harding stated, “The facts allege she put that newborn baby son alive in a dumpster in a remote area so that no one could save that baby’s life.”
It remains unclear why it took approximately eight years to bring charges against Harrison. According to Harding, law enforcement gathered evidence that led them to Harrison, who subsequently confessed to the crime after multiple interviews. “She gave interviews after arrest that are leading to additional investigations as well,” Harding noted.
Legal Arguments and Bond
Prosecutors argued for Harrison to be held on a substantial bond, emphasizing the severity of the alleged crime. However, her defense attorney, Ryan McGuigan, disputed the characterization of Harrison as a danger to society. “The state may paint her as a threat to society, but I don’t think that’s the case. I don’t believe that’s the case,” McGuigan stated. He added that Harrison has been active in the community and has maintained full-time employment.
Members of the victim’s family were reportedly present in the courtroom and left in tears as Harrison entered. Harrison is currently being held on a $2.5 million bond and is scheduled for her next court appearance on July 31.
Ongoing Investigations and Unanswered Questions
Officials have not yet disclosed the cause of the newborn’s death or provided a definitive explanation for the lengthy delay in Harrison’s arrest. Nevertheless, the prosecution asserted that “the facts all will point to the fact that this defendant murdered her newborn child.”
