Los Angeles County is poised to pay out a further $828 million for victims of alleged sexual abuse in county services, months after agreeing to the biggest intercourse abuse settlement in U.S. historical past.
The brand new award, posted on the county claims board agenda Friday, will embrace a further 400 circumstances that weren’t included within the $4-billion settlement accredited in April. The Board of Supervisors must vote on the potential settlement earlier than it’s finalized.
The announcement comes after The Instances reported earlier this month on allegations of fraud and misconduct within the $4-billion settlement. 9 plaintiffs stated they had been paid to sue, and 4 of them have stated they made fraudulent claims.
The county stated in a press release they are going to be conducting further vetting.
“Our settlements steadiness our obligation to compensate victims and deal with their experiences with compassion with the necessity to put robust protections in place to guard taxpayers from fraud,” Supervisor Kathryn Barger stated in a press release.
