The mercury climbed to a scorching 36.7C this afternoon, surpassing the previous record of 36.1C set in Gosport, Hampshire, just yesterday. Emergency Services Respond to Blaze
Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they are assisting Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service at the scene of the moorland fire in Glossop, close to the Tameside area. A spokesperson for the fire service stated, “Due to the large smoke plume, nearby residents are advised to keep doors and windows closed.”
A helicopter was observed flying over the wildfire, which is burning near a forested area in Glossop.
